Vendor Spotlight | Sugar Alkymi

One thing I’ve been DYING to do is to give back to all of the INCREDIBLE vendors I work with who I see going above and beyond for my brides and grooms. I work with A LOT but there are a select few that have always stood out in one way or another and most importantly has always had their eye on the prize, which is giving brides and grooms an AMAZING experience. This is why I created VENDOR SPOTLIGHT. To showcase the extraordinary so when you are planning your wedding, big or small, you can have access to some of the insights of other professionals in the industry without having to get lost in the internets!

When my wife and I were planning our wedding we interviewed SO many vendors in hopes to find the right one’s but instead of finding someone who’s character we loved as well as the quality of service, we ended up with just the latter. Now to most that might be enough but what I have learned in the years of being around so many couples is that the CHEMISTRY matters just as much, especially with how much you’re investing in them. If you read through my reviews the one constant is that they all get along with me, I help them feel at ease and that I’m laid back. Well, why wouldn’t you want that of all your vendors? If you’re going to be around someone for 8+ hours you ( whether you know it or not ) need to have chemistry with them.

So, with all that said let me introduce you to Sugar Alkymi

To start tell my viewers a little about yourself!

I started my love affair with edible art from an early age.

Being a chaser of modern surreal art, tones, textures and romantic patterns, I always dreamed of creating exquisite art.

It was through the influence of my studies in Chemistry & Fashion Design combined with my passion for delectable sweets, which provided an outlet to bring sublime cake designs to fruition.

Each cake is governed by my creative vision in collaboration with my client’s desire.

Ultimately, my goal is to transfer your unique story into an opulent wedding cake that will illuminate your precious event.

What made you start your confection company?

this is a true story, I was tried of working for Corporate world! I realized with amount of passion and energy I input everyday, I might as well do it for something I really love to do-

Tell us your funniest moment  or most emotional moment you’ve seen at a wedding.

I can’t say anything funny, because I barely attend any of the actual functions I create my cakes for. but seeing the teary eyes of the brides (and sometimes the grooms) when they see their cakes for the first time on their venue is really amazing-

Do you think every bride and groom need’s Sugar Alkymi?

Absolutely NOT. 🙂 I always say we have to understand our languages, If I can’t hear their voice or they don’t resonate with my art, it will not be a right fit.

Any advice you have for a bride and groom about the wedding industry in general?

Research on your own! use referrals to start with but pay attention to little details. Price should not always be your ultimate decision maker.

What do you think is most crucial when working with other vendors? Other than you wanting them to be kick ass

you mean as a vendor myself or for the couples? I would say for me the main thing is COMMUNICATION! and I honestly believe that applies to the couple as well- being honest, open and not sugar coating anything..LOL I think over promising is the devil of this industry

When an inquiry comes in, what clues do you look for to know they will be an INCREDIBLE fit for your company?

very good question! I would say for me the actual tone of first communication link says it all. But I do require basic required info, date , venue guest number ..etc

Anything extra you’d like to share?

it really boils down to the couple to have fun. I see a lot of times the couple stress over the little unimportant things that they forget the bigger picture. This is a great time to enjoy and have fun – showcase your unity rather than what’s the latest trend… that will fade away soon

Lastly is a few speed-round questions HA! Top 3 favorite venues / Top 3 favorite films and Top 3 things you still have on your bucket list!

oh boy!!

Favorite venues: Montage Laguna Beach, Villa Montalvo Saratoga, but i’m also a sucker for all smaller intimate villa venues.

Top 3 films: People vs Larry flint, Planes, trains & automobiles, An education

top 3 bucket list: Is it corny to say I only have one left? I would like to retire in Cinque Terre (when I get to retire that is lol)
