SECOND SHOOTING, YES I STILL DO IT.
You know…I still second shoot a lot for other photographers. This may seem weird but there’s a few very important reasons I do it.
- There are a shit ton of second photographers who will let you down. They ask for outrageous hourly rates and have to be babysat, often times under delivering or just simply inexperienced. In California this is a huge problem where fairweather wedding photographers rely more on the edit instead of framing, composition and story. I don’t want my friends to have to deal with this so whenever they need help, if I’m free I help.
- It’s therapeutic. For me, being around happy people is just good food for the brain. It’s hard work yes but the payoff mentally is very rewarding.
- No one is a “ Master “. Second shooting allows me to slow down for a second and educate myself in different ways. Maybe there’s a new way to light something or hey that shadow can be used in this way, there’s an infinite amount of possibilities on a wedding day and the more we can learn them, the more we’ll be readily available to execute those ideas on our own.
So what I’m going to start doing is blog about the weddings I second shoot on. Just a small selection of rad things I had seen throughout the day or new ideas I tried out, for the most part I’m leaving out details stuff and family pictures though.
I’ll call it “ The 2nd “ It’s more for me than you yes. Enjoy.
